The first moment of the attainment is termed the path of stream-entry (sotāpatti-magga), which cuts through the first three fetters. The person who experiences it is called a stream-winner (sotāpanna)
The ten fetters that bind us to the cycle of birth and death are: Personal-existence view, doubt, wrong grasp of behavior and observances, sensual desire, ill will, Lust for form, lust for the formless, conceit, restlessness, and ignorance
The First stage: A "Stream-enterer" (Sotāpanna) is free from:
1. Personal-existence view (Pali: sakkāya-diṭṭhi), the belief that there is an unchanging self or soul in the five impermanent skandhas
2. Wrong grasp of behavior and observances
3. Doubt about the teachings
This person is also called having opened the "Dharma eye", because he has begun to have a pure view and has clearly perceived the Buddha's Dharma. That person no longer has any doubts about the existence and benefits of the Triple Gem: no more doubts about the Buddha's enlightenment, no more doubts about the path that the Buddha outlined to reach enlightenment , there is no more doubt about the noble sangha who have followed that path and achieved ultimate liberation
The "Stream-enterer" is completely free from suffering from wrong views and doubts in the present life and future lives and is completely free from the suffering of rebirth in the four evil realms: hell, atlas, hungry ghosts, and animals.
